The Roman Empire
Antinous, favourite of Hadrian

Bronze, Tarsus Ciliciae circa 134, Æ 13.08 g. HPΩC – ANTINOOC Bare head l.; in upper l. field, star. Rev. ΑΔΡΙΑΝΗC ΤΑΡCOV MHTP[OΠOΛEΩC NE]ΩΚΟ?ΟV Cista, ornamented with garlands, flanked by two thyrsoi and with a third behind; all linked by ribbons. Below, NEΩ ΙΑΚXΩ. ?? Blum p. 52, 5. Waddington 4631. SNG Paris 1421.
Of the highest rarity, by far the finest of only three specimens known and undoubtedly
one of the finest bronze coins of Antinous in existence. A magnificent portrait
of masterly style. Dark olive green patina and good extremely fine
